Tarlton Superintendent Cecil Whitaker traveled to Joyabaj, Guatemala, in June as part of a mission trip to build two 14-by-19-foot houses and finish the interior of another.
The block houses were built with indoor plumbing (considered a luxury) and donated to widows and orphans.
Over the last seven years, Whitaker has donated his time and talent through Faith Community Church and Project 58. He has visited Mexico, Belize and Guatemala, where he has worked in jungles to build a children’s camp, a cathedral, campground, wells for a village tribe, and even a lake. His next trip will be to help people in Brazil.
