The Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District hired Tarlton for this sanitary relief system extension. Our team began with excavation and piping work on the diversion structure into the existing structure.
The new high-capacity sewer line is 2,140 feet long, with large-diameter concrete pipe and cast-in-place junction chambers. To connect the new pipe to the existing system, the team excavated tunnels ranging from 20 to 40 feet underground. The pipe runs beneath a river, a county park, a road, and a municipal ballpark.
The biggest challenge was diverting water during construction. Yet even with rain delays that flooded the excavation and prevented pipe installation, critical parts of the project were completed before the start of the baseball season.
